Road Safety Barriers

Armco RSP’s Road Safety Barriers Save Lives

Armco RSP’s road safety barriers are designed to save lives by preventing vehicles from leaving the road. Our road safety barriers are found along many of South Africa’s roads and are the result of extensive research in road safety.

There is a lot of road construction in progress on South Africa’s roads at the moment and motorists have become used to seeing our temporary barriers set up at such sites. The yellow StackMan temporary plastic barriers are ingenious and highly effective. They are hollow, lightweight carry and easy to assemble; they interlock to form a long chain of barriers. They are quickly installed by a small number of road workers. After they have been positioned, they are filled with water and become a very impact-resistant barrier. Road workers’ lives often depend on this singular barrier between them and the traffic. The Monster Man barrier is seen less often and is a much larger barrier, the segments of which are 3m long and 2.6m high. They take 2,000 litres of water, are also interlocked and can withstand severe impacts.

An example of a permanent barrier is our well-known guardrail barrier installed along roads where it would be particularly hazardous for a vehicle to leave the road, like on curves, road elevations and bridges. The guardrail barrier’s supports are designed to snap progressively, allowing the barrier to deform and “catch” the errant vehicle.

These are a few examples of the road safety barriers that Armco RSP manufactures in its state-of-the-art SABS ISO 1461 hot dip galvanised plant. Contact us for more information.
