Road Safety Products

Armco RSP manufactures and supplies an entire range of road safety products for use on South African roads as signage, demarcation indicators, channelling devices, delineators and barriers.  These road safety products keep traffic flowing and help keep road works workers safe.

The most common examples are barriers.  Guardrail barriers are permanent barriers found next to roads where it would be particularly unsafe if a vehicle were to leave the road, such as on bridges, mountain passes or road elevations.  The short supports that hold the guardrail are designed to break on impact to allow the guardrail to yield and steer the vehicle back onto the roadway.  Another example of a permanent barrier is the wire rope safety fence.  Strong cables are held in place by supports that are also designed to break.  These are sometimes found on double carriageway medians and are equally adept at withstanding impact from either direction.

Water-filled barriers absorb impacts particularly well.  Permanent versions are installed at tollgates, where runaway vehicles may be expected to hit the barriers at high speeds.  Multiple layer barriers are used at such locations, starting with the water-filled barriers to absorb the bulk of the impact, supplemented with unyielding steel rails and concrete to keep a vehicle away from the tollbooth and safeguard the tollbooth operator’s life.  Temporary, water-filled barriers are also used a road works sites.
