Road Products

Some companies specialise in road products that are installed on our roadways to keep us safe and pointing in the right direction. From crash barriers to traffic cones, here are a few examples:

* Guardrail barriers are installed next to roadways where it would be particularly hazardous for a vehicle to leave the road, like on a bridge or a mountainous road. These guardrails’ supports are designed to break on impact to enable the guardrail to deform and “catch” the vehicle, directing it back onto the road.
* A wire rope safety fence is sometimes used instead of a traditional guardrail and may be useful where one barrier may be expected to withstand impacts from either side. The supports also snap on impact, leaving the elastic cable system to direct the vehicle back onto the roadway.
* Plastic, portable, water-filled barriers are normally used at sites where road works are taking place. The barriers are interconnected and brightly coloured to channel or divert traffic, while protecting the workers working behind them.
* Permanent water-filled barriers are used at places like tollbooths on highways where any likely impact may be at a high speed. Tollbooth operators are often protected by a combination of barriers, starting with deformable barriers and culminating in solid concrete and steel close to the tollbooth.
* Stop blocks are fitted in cramped parking areas to prevent parking mistakes and strictly delineate parking areas. These are usually painted in bright, contrasting colours, and fitted with cat’s eyes.
* Various types of delineators exist, most of which are impact tested. The flexible blade-type is well known, delineating lanes at road work sites and usually coloured black and yellow.

These are some of the road products that we drive by daily and take for granted. However, they contribute enormously to our safety.
